Ganjam Bomkai saree is a traditional handloom bomkai saree woven in Bomkai village of Odisha known for its intricate extra weft weaving pattern on cotton 40 count thick yarn.

What is Bomkai Saree: 

This beautiful handwoven saree uses interlocking extra weft , & warp technique of weaving where additional weft/warp are used along with base weft, and warp bringing decorative thread designs to the surface of the saree. This weaving technique allows use of more colors in weft/warp along with base color in turn helping weavers show their creativity weaving flora, fauna, rich art, architecture , and symbolic element in the form of motifs on the surface of the Saree. 

Bomkai Saree identified by Plain body with small extra weft weaving floral motif, intricate thread work on the palla, and rudraksha, floral, or fish motif on the border . Many a times Bomkai saree are enhanced with ikat weaving on palla, and temple border on. It mostly comes with a contrast color woven blouse piece matching the palla color.

History of Bomkai Saree: As the name suggest Bomkai saree originated in Bomkai village of Odisha in Berhampur district. It was traditionally woven using Pit loom shuttle using 3 shuttle technique, as well as Jala technique.
